Approximately twenty-five thousand homes in Queensland's southeast were left experiencing outages on Monday morning after powerful weather events impacted the region, bringing strong winds reaching 109km/h.

Massive Frozen Precipitation and Widespread Destruction

Locals witnessed giant hailstones measuring up to 7cm in particular locations. The Bureau of Meteorology verified that various areas across the state had been impacted by large hailstones.

Rescue organizations responded to nearly 600 calls for help across the area, primarily for building damage but also for fallen timber and water accumulation.

At one point on yesterday, over 28k energy customers in the state were experiencing outages.

Climate Outlook

Humid circumstances were forecast to persist along much of Queensland's east this week as a atmospheric system continued to pull in damp air against the coastal areas.

Tuesday was expected to become the wettest day, with ongoing severe weather risk anticipated across various areas of both states.

Public health experts alerted that there was an increased chance of weather-related respiratory issues across the northern rural areas, specifically given the ongoing climate situation.
