Formula 1 competitor Liam Lawson revealed he came dangerously close to a life-threatening accident during Sunday's F1 event in Mexico when two safety personnel crossed the track directly in front of him

The alarming incident happened on the third lap when track officials were seen on the track as Lawson was getting back on the race following an early pitstop to replace his broken nose section

Racer's Instant Response

Moments later, Racing Bulls driver Lawson radioed to his pit wall engineer saying: "Are you kidding me? Could you believe what happened? I might have... taken their lives"

"I genuinely couldn't process what I was witnessing"

"I exited on a brand new hard tyres, and then I approached Turn One and there were just two guys running across the track"

"I came close to striking one of them, honestly, it was incredibly risky"

Track Safety Questioned

"Clearly there's been a communication breakdown somewhere but This is the first time I've faced that before, and I haven't previously witnessed that in the past. It's absolutely inexcusable"

"We can't understand how on a ongoing race track track officials can be authorized to just run across the track in such a way. I don't understand the reason, I'm confident we'll get some form of reasoning, but it really can't happen again"

Governing Body Reviewing

F1's overseeing organization, the International Automobile Federation (FIA), is currently investigating the events

"Subsequent to a first corner event, track officials was notified that debris was present on the track at the apex of that corner" declared the regulatory authority

"On lap three, track officials were informed and put on alert to enter the track and clear the fragments once the entire field had cleared the area"

"As soon as it became apparent that Lawson had made a pit stop, the directives to deploy officials were rescinded and a caution signal was displayed in that section"

"Our inquiry continues what transpired subsequent to that time"
