The star has donated the full amount of his twenty-five thousand pound Mercury Prize cash to the Music Venues Trust, which functions to save the United Kingdom's independent music venues.

The star was given the award on mid-October as his latest record the album was named the top album of the past year.

Fender has chosen to give the cash to the trust, in acknowledgment of the crucial part local spots fulfilled in his beginning days.

"As an artist couldn't be pursuing this success if it hadn't been for all the shows I did around the region, and beyond, when I was beginning," said Fender. "These venues are iconic, but they are facing challenges."

From early 2023 onward, over 150 of these venues have ceased operations – about 16% of the whole industry in the UK.

In the last year, major artists such as Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the trust in its initiatives to keep the scene afloat, by adding a small levy to their ticket prices, which supports independent venues.

Sam Fender also took part, generating more than £100,000 on his live tour to help 38 local spots across the UK.

The money assisted spaces that were confronting imminent closure due to difficulties stemming from flooding, fire incidents and family tragedies, as well as permit problems, legal disputes and neighbor objections.

Additional spaces obtained monetary aid in modernizing facilities and technical equipment that helped performers and audiences.

"The idea that revenue from shows in major spaces backs the smaller venues, where it begins for performers like me, is just sensible," Sam Fender has stated.

The musician is among several artists to give his award prize money to charitable organizations.

When Pulp won the award in 1996 for their album Different Class, vocalist Jarvis Cocker announced that the act would give their prize money to the charity War Child.

That year, artist she split her bounty across several charities, like the NSPCC and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"And I gave a £1,000 to Highgate Newtown, to their gymnastics program, because I practiced gymnastics when I was younger and they needed better apparatus," Ms Dynamite explained to a publication.

Two years ago, Ezra Collective contributed their prize money to the youth organization that developed their group, alongside other local music groups.

Also winners that year the group donated their winnings to a MS organization after a close contact was found to have the condition.

"The victory was sufficient," said vocalist Heather Small. "The money was the extra but we didn't need the extra, because we had the cake. So our victory affected somebody else's life."

Last week, the Music Venues Trust shared it had protected a couple of local spots in south-east England, by placing them under local control.

The Joiners in that area and the other in the city were acquired under the community ownership program, which is supported by Arts Council England and supporters who purchase "stakes" in the buildings.
